...comedies at least.

I was walking out the door this morning thinking how nice it was for my husband to start the car for me and get it all nice and toasty. A few minutes prior I noticed that it started lightly hailing again so I was glad to not have to worry too much about gloves because the car would be warm. Unfortunately, when I got to the car it was neither running, nor warm and toasty. In fact, I suddenly realized the noise I heard was not the car running, but the dehumidifier (probably frozen over) running in the basement. Hmm...and I was locked out of the house. Luckily, this has happened before and I knew that Kyle had hidden a key somewhere in the area. I was a little concerned that my cell phone was on the last leg of its battery, but hopefully it had enough juice to find out from my husband where it was hidden. After waiting a few minutes for his principal to track him down, I said, "tell me quick where is the extra key?! My battery's almost gone." His reply, "on the key ring."

Had I not been locked out of the house, that would be a great place to keep a key. But seeing as I was locked out, I thought...wtf... "oh!" he said, "there's an extra one in the car!"

"The car that is locked?" I replied.

"hmm...I guess you're outta luck," he said.

*&%^!

I had already called our friend who lives a 1/2 mile down the street. I thought I would be in luck since he usually drives past our house at about this time to drop off his daughter at school. Unfortunately on this dismal day, he had already dropped off his kids and was on his way to work. But! Lucky for me! The doors to their house were unlocked and I could walk in and get the key myself. Except...it's a 1/2 mile down the road...and I was wearing my red hot, red high heeled boots. Sorry, no can do. You know, the ones I only where when I am not teaching and won't have to be on my feet so much? yep. So, I walked next door and knocked on their door. My neighbor Aimee is a nurse and work nights, so when their kids said they were sleeping I didn't think it was necessary to wake them. I then walked across the street and knocked on that neighbor's door. They are a retired couple and it was early enough that I didn't knock loud or more than once because I didn't want to wake them either. They never answered. On my way back to my house I contemplated taking the riding lawn mower down to our friend's house. However, Kyle doesn't leave the key outside and I wasn't quite sure I could figure it out anyway. Well, there was my bike...oh, what the heck. So I grabbed my bike and it was still connected to the kid carriage thing on the back. That was entirely too much work for 8am Monday morning, so I grabbed Kyle's bike. For those of you not familiar with my husband--he's 6'3". The man owns a large bike. Anyway, I swung my leg over (hoping to not lose my balance on my fabulous, if not impractical for biking, boots) and headed out of the driveway and down the road. Now, in case you aren't finding this hysterical, picture me with my dress work clothes, high heeled red boots, glasses, long dress coat, and security tag blowing in the wind as I trudge down the road. I had a pretty good speed going until I got to the slight hill. It's amazing how difficult it is to bike in high heels and dress coat on a Monday morning with no coffee in your system. I lost steam. Luckily, it was downhill on the way back.

My only saving grace to not literally blow steam out of my ears like in the old cartoons was the fact that no less than 20 people were laughing their asses off on their way to work. Happy Monday to you all.

stress + more stress = fat

Monday, September 17, 2007

I hear the stories of women who are so stressed about their wedding that they can't keep the weight on. I remember the woman fitting me for my wedding gown, saying that she'd probably have to take it in because most women lose weight because of the stress. Let's just say that a month before my wedding, I was crying in the fitting room as beads dropped to the floor. The seamstress had to completely take apart, let out, and re-bead my dress because I had gained weight. I am an emotional eater...hear me roar. (At a bowl of ice cream). At least I am now aware of it. At least when I went in to the freezer a half hour ago, I said to myself, "I am eating this frozen yogurt because it tastes good and therefore, makes me feel better." I've learned a few other things--I'm eating frozen yogurt (LOVE Edy's Carmel and Pralines). I also went for a walk/jog before eating my tablespoon of yogurt (rather than the rest of the container). So, I'm getting better and I am aware of my weakness.

This realization comes at a tough time, when both kids have Roseola, work is extremely stressful--fun, but stressful, and the move is closing in. My usual workout routine has been completely disrupted. I used to put exercise as a top priority, but I just can't do that this month. I try to plan healthy meals and travel to several stores to get the best quality of food for a good price. I have planned, but I'm usually too tired to actually make the meals. Pizza has become my lover once again. We've downgraded our take out to Top's Grocery Store pizza (they have a take out area) so it's cheaper and I feel better because I categorize it as part of "groceries" in our budget. Hey--I have to justify it somehow.

The things that are keeping me going are my amazing friends. Amy has inspired a bunch of us with her running streak, and so that is why I did my first day of the Couch to 5K workout. It was only about 30 minutes with warm up and cool down, we have a beautiful sunny, but cool day today, and I was going to pull every last hair out of my head if I didn't get the kids outside. My cousin's wife, Lindsay, paid me a huge compliment saying that I had inspired her to start working out with a trainer, and in turn her commitment inspires me. She has even started biking to the gym twice a week! Healthy and environmentally friendly! I can't wait to get into a new routine at our new house.

My last insight for today is this: I stopped by my friend's house who lives around the corner and has two girls the same age as my kiddos. Last week she helped us out in a bind, by watching the kids for an hour, while Kyle and I went to pick up our awesome Craig's list find (an armoire for Kaela's room). I wanted to drop off a box of Bear Paws (it's a Canadian thing) because the kids took them over before and they all seemed to love them. Anyway, I rudely just stopped over since she is around the corner, and when she answered the door she had some comfy pants, a long t-shirt, and sweatshirt on. The girls were completely naked. I thought I was looking in the mirror! That could be me on any given day...comfy clothes and naked butts! I quickly wondered if I could back out of this whole moving thing--Wilson is just too far from her!

under pressure

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

As usual, I have so much going on that I have no time to actually sit and think about any one thing. That sounds kind of sad, but that is just the reality of life right now. Last week I was thinking a lot about the Vice Principal who forgot to drop off her daughter at daycare and she unfortunately died. My heart goes out to that mother. It's not the first case we have heard of like this and at first I thought--how could you forget your child? But, since, I have thought about how I will start driving and not really think about where I am going. Or I will drive somewhere and arrive, but not really remember driving there. Starting daycare last week, there are days that Kyle takes the kids in and there are days that I do. It's not that far of a jump to think about forgetting it was my turn, and just driving to my usual destination. I would really be a basket case about this, except that I have two children going to daycare and they are never sleeping on the way there. There's no quiet in that van, so it would be difficult to forget them-I'm actually thankful for this. Another relief to me is that I always have too many things that I have to carry around and they always get dumped in the back seat. It does really make me think about the pressures that mothers are under in our society.

After only a day and a half of daycare, Cameron spiked a fever over the weekend. However, I can't just blame daycare because we were in to the dr's office for Mikaela's checkup last week so he could have picked it up there. Yesterday was a Cami and Mommy day at home and all of my time was taken up making calls related to the house. Again, sad, but I know that in a month I will be blogging about my wonderful house and all of my free time...I'm thinking positively here about the free time!
