Griffis Sculpture Park

Sunday, July 29, 2007

We went on a day trip to Griffis Sculpture Park. I've been wanting to go there for a few years, but between young kids and the distance (about an hour from our house) we just never made it until last week. We had a great time! We took Mikaela and our supplies for lunch in the stroller and headed out with Cameron, Max, and Nick leading the way. We breezed through the first few sculptures and then paused for a while around the pond with the women surrounding it. It was very cool to see how they had placed the sculptures so that they were just skimming the water. Up the hill from there were the sculptures the kids were really excited about. They could climb in and on spaceship looking pods and bugs. The next bit of the trail was difficult with the stroller. Not only was it uphill, but Kyle had to push the stroller over all of the tree routes. Poor Cam's little legs were starting to give out! We made it to the top and there was a huge tower that Kaela and I left the boys to explore while we got lunch ready. We had a quick lunch on the stage and then headed out for the rest of the trail. It was a loop back around to the stage where there were loops and mazes to explore. Anything the kids could climb or jump off of was a hit. Cameron was getting really tired by this time so I threw him onto my back and we did piggy-back the rest of the way. Lots of fun, but I think we will wait until the kids are a bit older to do that one again.
